Home What We Do Environment & Regulation

Our Environment & Regulation Team provides advice and support on a range of environmental compliance and other operational risks and liabilities for clients in Scotland, the UK and internationally.

Keeping up to date and complying with the legislation and guidance issued by a range of regulating bodies - which includes the EU, UK and Scottish Governments, the Food Standards Agency, HSE and SEPA - is an on-going challenge for most businesses. It often seems that nothing can be done without some regulation or potential liability impacting upon it.

Key expertise:
Environmental taxes.
Environmental protest issues, litigation and defence of prosecutions licensing, permitting, notices and appeals.
Environmental aspects of corporate, property, finance and project deals including environmental insurance.
Waste management, contaminated land, asbestos, noise nuisance, water discharges, fish farming, radioactive substances and sewerage issues.
Environmental due diligence and contractual negotiation on corporate and real estate transactions.
All aspects of waste and producer responsibility (including detailed WEEE & RoHS compliance, REACH, Packaging Waste as well as waste permitting and contracts).
Dealing with water use and effluent matters.

To make matters worse, policy makers and advisers seem to focus on the problems, rather than finding business-friendly solutions.  At Davidson Chalmers we take a different approach.  In addition to simply identifying the key issues, our experienced team of commercially-minded specialists provides practical and innovative solutions.  Our clients include small to medium enterprises, the public sector and plcs,

Our aim is to make effective liability management and compliance as easy and cost effective as possible.

The team is well-known for its expertise in dealing with  compliance issues in the agricultural sector, including advice on waste, environmental permitting, water law and defending prosecutions for water pollution and waste offences.

The 2015 Legal 500 commented that:
