Gullane Medical Practice
The Business Objective.
As the population of Gullane in East Lothian continues to grow, GP’s at the Gullane Medical Practice realised that new, fit-for-purpose premises were required to meet the health and social care needs of the local community. As the leading legal firm advising GP practices across Scotland, Davidson Chalmers was appointed to advise the practice in relation to the new premises.
Davidson Chalmers acted for the partners of the medical practice in providing general advice and dealing with the negotiation of all documentation required in respect of the construction of the new medical centre on land owned by East Lothian Council. This included dealing with a number of complicated title issues in relation to the site. The contemporary building design also incorporates a number of energy efficient measures including a living sedum roof and air source heating.
The new medical centre was a joint development between NHS Lothian and East Lothian Council and is the first joint agency project to be developed in East Lothian by the hub South East Scotland Territory programme.
The hubCo approach to procurement has been established to assist its public sector partners to develop high quality community facilities on time and on budget. These new community facilities will support the delivery of co-located services and projects worth over £300 million are expected to be developed through the hubCo South East programme, which covers Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Borders.
The new £2.9m Day Centre and Medical Practice opened on schedule and on budget on 16th January 2014.
